Need a new kettle, but don't want to spend lots of money? Read our review of this budget-friendly model from Tesco.
This great-value kettle is an ideal one to pack for students who are off to university. It’s a good size at 1.7-litre capacity, so it will be good for entertaining the permitted five friends. It’s a decent price, too – you won’t need to worry too much about the hammering it will undoubtedly get – and it’s surprisingly speedy for a budget model. Ours boiled a litre of water in about 2 minutes.
Available in-store from Tesco (£18)

While this kettle won’t win any design awards, it's unobtrusively good-looking in black and silver. There’s no branding on it. The black body is textured, and silver picks out details like the lid, handle, on switch and flip-up switch. Even the base it sits on is edged with silver.
The water scale is in litres, and is easy to read as it's on the side of the kettle rather than lurking under the handle. When switched on, the scale lights up in an attractive blue.
The only con we can come up with is the slightly spindly on switch, which most people wouldn’t even notice. It also isn’t the quietest kettle we tested.
